First Grade Penguin Daddy Day

Graham has been looking forward to Penguin Day all month.  Every year our school has a special day that the first graders can bring their dads to school for half a day.  They call the day Penguin Day because  it is in the winter and they learn about penguins together.
"My did is great because he plays games with me. I love him"
Graham

Other highlights of the week:
  • Truman made the honor roll--AGAIN!!  I am so proud of him!
  • Dexter won first place (in his age group) in a basketball competition.
  • Eve's team won their first basketball game.

"I love cheese!"

One of the kids in Dexter's class at school (probably Dexter) started the saying "I love cheese."  A lot of the kids at the school picked up on it and they are constantly saying it to each other.  Dexter's basketball team name was almost "Green Cheese" (lost by 1 vote).   Dexter says it probably 50 times a day (yes, it is driving me nuts).  So, it was no surprise to me when Dexter asked if he could make his pinewood derby car look like a piece of...CHEESE. The other scouts chanted "cheese, cheese, cheese..." every time the cheese mobile raced.

Not only was the cheese mobile popular it was FAST.  Dexter's car won every race and third place overall.  We now have one happy cheese-lover in this house!  He's got his car and trophy front and center on his dresser.

Whirlwind Weekend

Wednesday my sister, Becky, emailed me to let me know her girls were going to be in a play Saturday.  I decided to fly out for the weekend to watch them perform and to meet my new nephew.  Bret had enough frequent flyers for both me and Dexter to fly out so we both went.  My parents and grandma came up from Coquille and my brother, Carl, came down from Seattle.

After Becky and Ryan picked us up at the airport and took us to lunch we stayed our first night at Jennifer's new home. Grandma, Jennifer and I stayed up until midnight talking.  This conversation was one of the best parts of the trip for me.
Dexter had a great time with ALL of his cousins.

After watching the two actresses, Nicole & Beth, we went to pizza.

We stayed the second night at Becky's.   Hot tubbing until midnight at Becky's was the highlight of the trip for Dexter.   Sunday we went to church together and then caught our flight back to Utah.

It was a fast-paced FUN, FUN trip.  I am so glad I went.  I really love my family and am so thankful for them!!

Happy 2013!!

One of my 2013 new year resolutions is to blog every Sunday. I am living through the happiest time of my life and don't have any proof of it. I am going to be better this year about keeping track of all the fun memories!
The B&K Gundy New Year's tradition is to have an awards ceremony on New Years' Eve.  Each kid gets recognized for something they did in 2013.  We also watch a slide show of the previous year.  Fun tradition!!
Awards: Truman-graduated from Elementary School and played the piano at his graduation. Eve-survived a tonsillectomy.  Dexter-placed in the top 10% in the piano competition (he and Eve played a duet). Graham-his teacher said he is the best behaved kid in her first grade class. Laura-got a new bed and started sleeping on the top bunk. Sitota-is potty trained!!!
10, 9, 8... Happy New Year!!  We celebrated the new year at approximately 8:49 pm.  You know we're early to bed folks!

Another tradition, waffles for breakfast on the first day of the year followed by bowling.  No, Bret is not hung over, we don't drink (contrary to how he looks in the waffle picture).

My kids LOVE living so close to cousins.

Bret & Cassi tied for first place (much to Bret's disappointment).

Merry Christmas!

Here are my little ladies ready for church on Christmas Sunday.
We told the kids they couldn't wake us up until after 7:00am. At 7:01am Eve and Laura came into our room. We had a fantastic day! We opened presents, had breakfast burritos for brunch, played with our new toys and relaxed. We ended the day at Mindy's house hanging out with family (Broc & Julie, Cassi & Caleb, Mindy & Josh and a whole bunch of kids).
